Empowering Smart Citizenship
The changing mobility ecosystem
The mobility landscape is facing profound structural changes.
The way people and goods move from one point to another one is fundamentally transformed by a set of technological innovations and social trends: autonomous driving, connectivity, electrification of vehicles and on-demand mobility services (or shared mobility), as defined by the acronym ACES.
These disruptive forces are revolutionizing the mobility ecosystem and are affecting our everyday lives by offering several travel options, greener, cheaper, safer and more focused on user needs.
Nowadays, cities cover approximately 2% of the Earth's surface, host 50% of the global population, represent 75% of the energy consumed and 80% of the carbon dioxide emitted. It follows that if we want to achieve the climate targets on the scale of the whole planet, we have to change our cities.
The urbanization rate is increasing more and more so that Smart City platforms will become the marketplace for most part of services.
Smart Energy is projected as one of the most lucrative segment
The emergence of a new paradigm: the holistic mobility
To improve the quality of life of Smart City inhabitants, to make our urban spaces more sustainable, healthier, safer and pleasant places to live in, it is necessary to adopt a holistic approach able to focus on interconnections (i.e. the hubs) and on a fully integration with the several system that are involved in the Smart City, such as Mobility, Energy, Healthcare, Safety, Domotics, Education, Leisure Time.
The importance of synergie
Embracing a holistic paradigm should lead us to conceive the urban environment as that “meta-dimension” in which citizens, municipalities and private companies may act and interact with each other through smart platforms.
Looking at the Smart City as a "dance of interacting parts" means to emphasize the idea that all actions have an effect, and these effects are exponentiated by the network infrastructure. Based on this new paradigm it is possible to integrate different stakeholders, including users, local communities virtual users and online communities. This allows to solve specific problems for individual users and for the design of complex systems of a specific group of users.
From Smart Cities to Smart Citizenship
The heart of our vision is the citizen, who is the primary beneficiary of the Smart City initiatives, either directly or indirectly.
Smart homes, smart buildings, smart grid, smart mobility, smart security, industrial automation rely on the active role of the smart citizen who is able meaningfully utilize the technology and benefit from it.
Citizens can be truly smart only if the so-called user-generated content can be processed, analyzed, shared and made available to the community and to the single user in the form of additional information available at hand which will expand the basic knowledge background and, therefore, may change the way we make decisions.
The development of a Smart Citizenship
Citizen empowerment is a dynamic process, whereby citizens get increasingly engaged with the services offered by the city and with numerous interactions throughout the day with other fellow citizens.
This process between city service providers and its citizens is mutual because it is based both on constant updates of the data collected and shared, and on users’ actions.
What we propose is to disrupt the market with a open source platform empowering the smart Citizenship.
Our platform shall enable private companies (supplying services to the person) to provide municipalities with innovative solutions for better governance able to satisfy citizens’ needs and requests, always growing and dynamic.
MOVENS is the mobility meta-platform entirely user centric and focused on the citizen wellbeing.
It seems very clear that mobility will penetrate more and more our day by day lifestyle and that most parts of our activities will be in some way monitored and, consequently, managed. All this data management will pass most likely through mobility integrated platforms.
Open source mobility meta-platform
The final aim of MOVENS is to become the mobility market standard platform and to join the blue-economy (reaching zero emissions). The newest technologies can effectively contribute to improve the wellbeing of citizens and, more generally, to deliver a better quality of life at different levels: environmental, economic, social, and cultural.
MOVENS is an ideal tool that perfectly fits the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development of United Nations in particular, with reference the following points:
- Goal 7. Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all
- Goal 9. Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation
- Goal 11. Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable
